Liana's story: Where colours meet emotion

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, I've been drawn to art for as long as I can remember. What began in childhood as a way to comfort and entertain my younger siblings grew into a lifelong fascination with how images communicate emotion, memory, and imagination. After immigrating to Canada in 1998, I spent many years in Montreal before moving to Toronto, Ontario, where I continue to develop my artistic practice. I work in acrylic, watercolour, pastel, and oil, and I’m especially inspired by vibrant colours and the feelings they evoke. In recent years, I’ve also been exploring gold and silver leaf, inspired by Gustav Klimt’s luminous textures, using these materials to play with light and create subtle depth in my compositions. My background in sociology and anthropology influences the way I see the world and shapes the stories behind my art. Each piece is a blend of personal reflection and human emotion—an invitation for the viewer to pause, connect, and find their own meaning in the colours and forms. My art is unique because it is driven by a very personal narrative. Every piece starts with a lived experience or emotional state, and I layer symbolism throughout the work. Even when the style is familiar, the story behind it—and how I translate that story visually—is my own.
